What does ASI offer in the area of fiber testing?
All Systems Installation has the capability to test fiber in a number of ways. Before any tests are performed, we will create a projected loss budget based on the length of the fiber run and the number of reflective and non-reflective events. This loss budget result will dictate the real value associated with the pass/fail point. Once the loss budget has been created, we can perform a "Light Source/Power Meter" test (required by ANSI/TIA/EIA -526-7 & 526-14 which will show the end-to-end power loss over a fiber run. In order to determine if all terminations and splices are within ANSI/TIA/EIA specifications it is necessary to utilize an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR). This device will show whether or not the entire fiber run is within the Loss Budget guidelines, and will indicate whether each component of that fiber link (e.g. connectors, fiber itself and any splices) is within recommended guidelines. Knowing this information will help you confirm that the electronics you ordered will operate at it's optimum efficiency level within your fiber cable plant. This could potentially save your business money.
